What happens to unused credits?

Unused credits will stay in your VINsmart account until they are used. They never expire. They can be transferred to another account under exceptional circumstances. Contact VINsmart support if you need a transfer.

Do you support multiple locations?

Yes! During the account setup, let a VINsmart representative know that you are looking to create an account with multiple locations.

What is a lien check?

A vehicle lien check searches for any liens currently attached to the vehicle you're looking to buy or sell. A lender that owns the lien on a vehicle can hold the new owner responsible for the amount owed by the person who initially financed the vehicle. A vehicle lien check can prevent that.

Why doesn’t my vehicle history report display the owner or lienholder information?

Though personally identifying information is available on NMVTIS, federal statutes (Privacy and Protection Act) and some state statutes prohibit the display of that data to consumers. NMVTIS records provide:

  • The current and previous state of title data
  • Title issue date
  • Title issue date
  • Latest odometer data
  • Theft history data (if any)
  • Any brand assigned to a vehicle and date applied
  • Salvage history, including designations as a “total loss” (if any)
  • Read the NMVTIS Consumer Access Product Disclaimer, which describes what is and is not included in NMVTIS reports.

It is available to law enforcement, investigative and regulatory agencies. States may elect to share that information with you directly as they see fit.

Do you offer a mobile app?

Yes, mobile applications are available for Android and iOS. Just click below or go to the App Store and select VINsmart PRO. You will be able to scan or talk the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to save time.

How do I apply for a refund?

If, for any reason, a report we deliver does not have information from the NMVTIS database, we will gladly issue a credit towards your next vehicle history report, or refund your money, minus a $2 processing fee, no questions asked. PLEASE NOTE: Canadian VINs and chassis/incomplete vans or trucks will NOT be valued.

Does report information expire?

Yes. All report information expires after 60 days from the date the VIN is run through the system. Once you run a report, it will remain in your VINsmart account for 60 days. You will also have the option to download a PDF of the report for your records.

I need help; how do I contact support?

Contact support by emailing [email protected]. Our representatives are standing by to help you with any issues you run into or to help answer questions.

*Note: What may not be in the report - All reliable vehicle history reports include data from NMVTIS, but information from this database is not always complete. All states, insurance companies, and junk and salvage yards are required by law to report information to NMVTIS, but not all do. In addition, some states are not yet providing their vehicle data to the system. The report does not include the owner or lienholder information, accident, or repair history. Reports do include title history, current and past states of title, and contact information for the titling jurisdictions.
